In an effort to prevent looting and burglary after a large-scale mandatory evacuation, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the barrier islands cities have joined forces to provide free Emergency Access Permits to all businesses and residents. Once a mandatory evacuation order has been lifted, Emergency Access Permits will be required to re-enter an evacuated area.
You will be asked to hang the permit from your vehicle’s rearview mirror for re-entry post-evacuation. Law enforcement posted at city entrances will scan the barcode on your permit to verify your residence.
Each barrier island will issue the permits, to residents and businesses of that island. This includes Madeira Beach and Treasure Island. Additionally Pinellas County sends free emergency notifications via ‘Alert Pinellas.’ Sign up by visiting www.pinellascounty.org/alertpinellas or call 866.484.3264.
The county-issued hangtag replaces the city-issued Treasure Island vehicle sticker. If you applied and received a sticker from Treasure Island, you should get a letter in the mail from the city advising you of the discontinuation of the sticker program. You will need to re-apply for the county hangtag at city hall.
The hangtags are available at the front desk of Treasure Island City Hall, 120 108th Avenue, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. For Madeira Beach residents, the tags are available at MB City Hall, 300 Municipal Drive, Madeira Beach – office hours as per Treasure Island.
