PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Missy H. Hahn, president of the Treasure Island & Madeira Beach Chamber of Commerce, attended the Visit Florida Tourism Leadership Summit in West Palm Beach December 11-13.
The summit was “designed to explore insights, issues, and trends facing the travel and tourism industry and encourage meaningful dialogue among Florida tourism industry leaders,” according to information provided by Visit Florida. “The goal of the two-day summit (was) to align the industry’s needs with VISIT FLORIDA’s annual strategic marketing plan.”
Discussions at the summit embraced a variety of topics, including The Future of Service, Brand Development, International Marketing, Domestic Marketing, and Cooperative Marketing.
Appointed to Visit Florida’s Industry Relations committee in mid-2017, Hahn was especially interested in how Visit Florida coordinates its cooperative marketing efforts.
“As a Chamber, we need more lead time to take advantage of major marketing efforts,” observes Hahn. “We need to secure Board approval, and we don’t have the same quick turn-around for committing funds that a hotel, restaurant, or attraction has built in to their operating procedures. It’s understandable that Visit Florida must respond quickly to opportunities to market our state, so it is important to find strategies that can meet Visit Florida’s time sensitive needs while responding to our need to be accountable to our Boards. This summit provided us with a way to put this concern on Visit Florida’s radar.”
