Genetic Testing can reveal what ails you

Jun 25, 2019Chamber News, Member News

The Early Detection Foundation offers something right out of a science fiction novel:

You visit a lab, give a blood, saliva, or tissue sample.

Your results come back and you learn you have a high risk for one of a vast number of diseases. Armed with this knowledge, you take preventive measures that keep you from ever contracting the disease.

The thing is, it’s not science fiction. It’s science fact, and it’s quickly becoming part of the medical matrix that may one day move from treating disease, to preventing it.

The Early Detection Foundation was established in 2018 as a public grant making charity. Its premise is that health awareness is an essential component of optimal living.

The Early Detection Foundation and their partner Advatest were part of the Treasure Island & Madeira Beach Chamber’s Health Fair and Trade Show in 2019, and EDF saw the advantages of being a member of our chamber: a network of congenial business leaders who could help introduce DNA testing to our thriving medical infrastructure; a friendly, trusted group of people who could introduce the “space age” technology to today’s consumers; and a method of reaching out to people to, literally, help save lives.

The Board of Directors of EDF comprises “individuals who are deeply committed to the advancement of the mission and goals of Early Detection Foundation, as well as the DNA genetic testing industry as a whole.”

The founding Board members are serving 12 month terms. A full Board of Directors, made up of trustees each serving 3 year terms, will be in place by October, 2019.

EDF has a Facebook page where they present easily-understood posts about the future of DNA genetic testing and disease mitigation.
