In Pinellas County, known as an upscale tourist destination the world over, more than 135,000 people struggle to stave off hunger.
PSTA and Feeding Tampa Bay have partnered to help bring these people, many who rely on public transportation, some much-needed help.
“Driving Away Hunger” is a program coordinated by the Leadership PSTA Class of 2019 to bring Feeding Tampa Bay food pantries to locations close to PSTA bus stops so families can have easier access to fresh food.
The pilot program complements existing efforts by Feeding Tampa Bay to locate food pantries in and near schools or community centers that are more easily accessible by the people who often live in “food deserts,” where nutritious food ad affordable prices is difficult to find.
Congratulations to PSTA and Feeding Tampa Bay for creating this successful program.
