Madeira Beach, FL – Local studio Madeira Beach Yoga hosts Yoga for the Turtles, a community yoga class to benefit the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) Sea Turtle Nesting program.
Yoga for the Turtles takes place on Sunday, October 22 from 8:30 a.m. till 10 a.m. It begins with a one-hour, all-levels yoga class held on the sandy beach at Archibald Park, 15100 Gulf Boulevard, Madeira Beach, followed by a brief Turtle Talk from CMA’s Supervisor of Sea Turtle Nesting, Lindsey Flynn. This is the second year for the event and organizers Sherry Duquet and Sandy Boulton, owners of Madeira Beach Yoga, expect an even larger crowd this year.
“We have the unique privilege of sharing yoga with clients in our studio and on the beach every week on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico at Archibald Park. The CMA Team rescues, rehabilitates and releases threatened and endangered sea turtles that nest on the very same beach where we practice yoga,” said Duquet. “Our goal is to help raise funds for CMA’s turtle efforts and to grow a deeper understanding of how humans can positively influence the lives of these special creatures.” The sea turtle nesting season takes place along the Gulf beaches from May-October annually.
“CMA has an incredible passion for all marine life. We are fortunate to have 5 of the 7 species of sea turtles make the Gulf of Mexico home. Our turtle work has positively impacted the lives of tens of thousands of turtles in our tenured history. We appreciate the opportunity to educate others on conserving these species,” said Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s Flynn.
Yoga for the Turtles is open to the public and free to attend, with a suggested $10 donation for CMA. Advance registration is required to reserve space on the beach. Sign up online, http://bit.ly/2jROKJo or call 727-401-7380. Attendees are advised to bring a beach towel or two for yoga and water to stay hydrated. Archibald Park is a public beach and there is plenty of parking in the pay-for lot. Walk onto the beach and turn right (north) and look for the Yoga signs. If you are unable to attend, but would like to be a virtual yogi and support the CMA sea turtle program, Madeira Beach Yoga has created an easy donation page, https://seewinter-2837.wedid.it/593.
